Sergio's (Re-posted) Ransomware Story

My mistake! In my excitement over Sergio's new job, I gave him credit for more than just re-posting on Facebook. Toniann Antonelli has the byline! No offense intended - I know what a byline means to a writer.

Now that he is with 101.5, Sergio Bichao is still the hardest-working man in the news biz, as witness this story about hackers stealing city files and demanding ransom.

  1. Hopefully all city files are backed up to a server that is not connected to the internet so this will have a minimal effect on us. It is hard to be hack-proof when the military even gets hacked. People who hold files for ransom need to be in jail a long time.

  2. Just out of curiosity, why is Sergio Bichao getting credit for a story filed under Toniann Antonelli's byline?

  3. Thanks for the repost on the hacking report Bernice. This is very newsworthy and had this occurred during the past administration, DD would have been all over it. But since he is on Mapp's team, not a word. It's nice to be selective in blog reporting.

    1. Yes. Especially since his partner is head of IT.

  4. I went to City Hall while the shared files were held for ransom. I was told that all departments that had shared services could not access information. Did not affect the productivity in City Hall!

    1. If the infection came into the server from the Finance Department, aside from the files being locked, is there a chance that employee bank information is at risk from direct deposit information and, if so, employees should be give at least 1 year of free credit monitoring.
