Tuesday is Last Day to Register for Primary

The last day to register to vote in the June 3 primary is Tuesday, May 13.

Plainfield City Clerk Abubakar Jalloh will hold evening hours Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at City Hall, 515 Watchung Ave., for voter registration.

In addition to this state Voter Registration Information, keep in mind that you have to re-register if your name or address have changed.

There are Democratic contests in the First Ward, Second & Third Ward at-large and Third Ward races this year. Party candidates filed on March 31.

Candidates in the First Ward are Siddeeq El-Amin, Emmett Swan and Diane Toliver.

In the Second & Third Ward at-large contest, candidates are Charles Eke and incumbent Councilwoman Rebecca Williams.

Candidates for an unexpired Third Ward term are Rasheed Abdul-Haqq, Charles McRae and incumbent appointee Councilwoman Gloria Taylor.

The primary winners will face Republicans Charles A. Jones Jr. in the Third Ward and Randy Bullock in the Second & Third Ward at-large race in November, along with any independent candidates who file on June 3. School board candidates must also file for the November 4 election on June 3.

  1. Thank you for the reminder, Bernice. Voters need to vote like the future of Plainfield is at stake. Looking at our disruptive and dysfunctional City Council and how they put other things before the welfare of Plainfield, we all need to vote with our future in mind.

  2. Bernice,

Thank you for publicizing this extremely important piece of information. I mean no offense to Independent and Republican voters, but the reality is IN PLAINFIELD, IF YOU ARE NOT REGISTERED AS A DEMOCRAT AND VOTE IN THE JUME DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY, YOUR VOTE DOESN’T COUNT! Over the last 20 years, the winners of the Plainfield Democratic Primary have won the general election! The only exception was the time Jerry Green threw an incumbent democratic councilman off the democratic line in the primary. He lost the democratic primary, but ran as a Republican in the general election and successfully won reelection because he was the incumbent Democrat.

The June 3rd Democratic Primary is the most important election in Plainfield in many years. With three council seats up for grabs, there is a chance to final break Jerry Green’s stranglehold on Plainfield City Government. With a Mayor and a Council majority working for Plainfield’s best interest instead of Jerry Green’s best interest, there is finally an opportunity to really improve Plainfield for all Plainfielders. We have seen how Jerry Green’s stooges operate. A great example was when Dunn, Sanders, and Toliver gave $1 Million severance of taxpayer money to Watson and Ervin, even though they weren’t owed any money after they resigned from the PMUA. Twenty years of Jerry Green running Plainfield for his own benefit is enough! But you have to be registered to vote in the Democratic Primary to have a voice. Register today!

    Sincerely,

  3. And absolutely register as a Democrat !! They are our the only hope for the City. If we get even one Republican or Independent on the Council all the fine work of the Democratic Party of the last 25 years in Plainfield may be lost.
