Be Ready To Vote on June 6!

Tuesday, May 16 is the last day to register for the June 6 primary!

Make sure you are registered. If you haven't voted for a while or have changed your address, you need to check your status. The City Clerk's office in City Hall, 515 Watchung Ave. will be open from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday for voter registration.

See unioncountyvotes.com for more information.

This primary is very important! Four Democrats want your vote for a four-year mayoral term, One will go on the ballot for the November 7 general election. See mayoral and City Council candidates at the NAACP forum on May 21 or the LWV forum on May 31.

People have died for your right to vote - don't waste it! Take part! We all see what happens when a large number of voters fail to exercise their franchise. Don't let it happen here.

    1. The Brown, Campbell, Briggs trifecta has shown once again that they are not worthy of holding elected office. The Campbell's and Tracey Brown have also proven that they are dishonest enough to create false information for their own gain, even it is ruins a person's reputation and the career that they have developed to support their family. Inserting falsified information into campaign literature and attributing it to a news outlet of record is also quite likely illegal - in addition to being defamatory. I would hope that the Brown's and Campbell's face the legal consequences of this terrible immoral act. Tracey Brown lost her last election, Wilma Campbell lost her last election, Sharon Robinson-Briggs lost her last two elections and John Campbell Jr. has lost every election he has every been in. Apparently the only way they think they can win is to spread hurtful lies and fraudulent news.

Anyone that supports Tracey Brown is complicit in this despicable and shameful behavior.

    2. It would appear that Rev Tracey Brown should spend a little less time in politics and a little more time curled up with her Bible - she has apparently forgotten the sin of bearing false witness - of which this garbage she is quietly putting into her campaign material and placing on doors is a perfect example. She and the Campbell family should be ashamed of themselves. I hope the Mayor takes legal action against them all.

    3. We live in the era of FAKE news - it's scary when Republican supported Clergy in Plainfield drink the Fox News like kool-aide too.

  3. This is what happens when Tracey Brown decided to partner with the republicans John and Wilma Campbell whose infamous for their mudslinging tactics.
Mapp is the clear choice for mayor. Honest, trustworty, intelligent and caring.

  4. Bernice, you lost me when I got to the next to last sentence. Trump has nothing to do with this election. What the gratuitous slap?

    2. Voter's remorse - for not voting - is happening in lots of recent elections. Make up your mind and vote.

  5. I did not put out any false information about anyone. Some people may believe everything that Dan writes, but I thank the Lord most people don't. I did not put that piece out nor did my supporters. If anyone is circulating negative literature with mine it is not from my campaign staff. I addressed those lies this morning on my website and on the radio. Shame on you Bob for your continuous attacks on me. You are always focusing on me and my faith, always willing and fast to accuse me of every lie you hear or read about me. I don't need to tear people down in order to build myself up I know that the enemy is always accusing those who are trying to do the right thing. Again, the negative literature did not come from me or my camp. Instead of people being self-righteous and looking for any excuse to degrade one's character and christian walk look in the mirror at yourself. My walk with the Lord is not for you to judge, and my Christian work and walk in this community is between me and my the Lord. I am only bringing faith into the picture because Bob when you attack me you always attack my faith. Rev. Tracey Brown.

    1. Rev Brown - you should be careful with how you respond because people working for your campaign (volunteers are campaign workers by the way) were walking door to door with your literature and they had the disgusting flyer folded into it - there were many voters that were handed it directly by these people. You should drop a retraction at all of those homes that got the garbage flyer.

    3. I believe in the separation of church and state and do not agree you should be involved in these filthy politics. Trying to defeat the devil is a full time job and he's certainly winning at his objective in taking your attention away from the things that are God's. You, as a minister, should be aware of this trap he is setting up for you. God's people should not be involved in the corruptness that is politics!!

  6. In the age of Trump and false news I don't know why I am so shocked and appalled by the trash being created by the Brown campaign - but I am. Bernice, you would be the resident expert here but isn't it highly illegal (not to mention unethical and immoral) to manipulate a news article and misrepresent the original content? I am going to contact the Essex Daily News and let them know Tracey Brown is falsifying their news stories - they should go after Tracey Brown for this.

  7. Is this the kind of groverence would could look forward to if Brown won as mayor. Let's just pray every problem away. The flyer on Dans' blog is typical of the Campbells campaign mudslinging and if Tracey isn't familiar with their tactics, she better ask someone.

  8. If you read my piece it says, "if true." If it is not, then I do apologize for any problems it has caused. I have not seen this literature. I am not attacking your faith, good try though. I am just giving my opinion on you public record on the City Council and what you and I disagree on. I am a Christian and am also a sinner as we all are, but do work hard at the truth. If you want to make this about faith, then you should not be our mayor. And saying I always attack your faith is an outright lie and I can say that with a clear conscience. Good luck to you, but I do not you think what you offer Plainfield is what I want for my home town. Good luck, again.

  9. Rev Danny Dunn and the Campbell's are on your political Staff along with the former Mayor and yes They put the negative literature about Mapp in my hands. I am not a supporter of Mapp I am a supporter of yours and if you want to keep my support don't go low. Mr. Dunn jumped out of his green truck with 2 other guys and handed out that literature. that is a fact

  10. Considering Tracey's response about not being behind the Mapp smear campaign, maybe all is not lost in politics.

  11. Render unto Caesar. A cleric in public office is ill advised. Look at the Reverend's discourse. "When you attack me you attack my faith". If Reverend Brown is successful in her run for Mayor it appears that a great many devout church going Christians are going to be labeled "Anti-Christs". Bill Kruse

  12. I believe that a cleric should serve and minister to their flock. That's what ministry is about. There will undoubtedly be times when decisions about serving the greater good for ALL the people of Plainfield will conflict with serving the needs of Rev. Brown's parishioners or church. That shouldn't ever happen. I would like a mayor that puts first his or her duty to best serve the residents of Plainfield without any distractions.

  14. I am a volunteer with Rev. Tracy Brown campaign. I first was not going to say anything about the negative piece her staff is being accused of handing out. Rev.T.Brown is staying clean, but the people around her are not being honest with her. She asked all of them if they knew anything about that piece, they all looked her in the face , and they all said no. Others on the campaign want them gone, the people helping her from her church they tell her they get a bad vibe from them. Rev. Tracey Brown is very naive when it comes to certain things in politics, she thinks people are decent and mean her no harm, she is wrong. She is wrong about these people, they are hurting her, and we want them gone. She's to nice to tell them to get lost. Also for you people fast to believe she is behind this, you are wrong like the people she has working for her. Some of you would rather believe a lie about her because of your dislike for her anyway. Who cares. Let the people decide June 6.

    1. And there in lies the problem. She is surrounded by unscrupulous people who will taint her whether she likes it or not. She has chosen to swim in this dirty pool rather than continue where her true talent is. It's sad to see. But it also makes me fearful if she should win her judgement of who she places in key positions will be suspect. Personally I really like her so this is not an attack but it is a concern.

  15. Is Rev.Tracy Brown the only candidate being attacked by all camps? This means she is the biggest threat to the machine. She must feel like Phil Murphy at his last debate.

  16. To anon 9:23am sounds like the problems lay within her management of her own campaign. So if what you say is true, how can she govern a city. To anon 9:49am their is no signs of personal or political attacks on Rev. Brown coming from anybody, yet. If you know of any please share them with us the voters.

  17. This is terrible and Tracey Brown should be ashamed about misleading voters. The denial is even worse because it is obvious her campaign did this. She can't even manage a campaign - how did she think she would manage a city? Oh yeah - she has Sharon Robinson-Briggs, Dan Williamson, Danny Dunn, Campbell's (if they aren't busy messing up BOE). Good lord what a mess that group could create in the city. It would be like Trump's amatuer hour on a local level. I'll pass.

  18. Why should anyone be shocked by Tracey's campaign playing dirty? This is the same group that films videos at tragic homicide scenes for their own benefit. Tracey isn't even honest about the crime rate dropping in town or she doesn't take the time to do the research. I never saw her filming her creepy videos when Robinson-Briggs was Mayor - did people forget that she had her own spikes in homicides? 2006 (10), 2010 (8 - which was a 400% increase over year prior), 2011 (10 - 20% increase over 2010), 2013 (9 - 50% increase over 2012). Robinson-Briggs had 51 total by the way.

I must have also missed it when Tracey was praising Mayor Mapp for the near record low homicide rates in 2014 (3) and 2015 (4). I am sure she justifies all of this in her own head. Pretty sad.

  19. I think this nonsense from the Brown campaign should demonstrate that, while she is a good pastor, she is not ready to be Mayor. People should not forget the last amatuer Mayor the city had in one Sharon Robinson-Briggs (Brown's very good friend). 8 years of zero progress and nonexistent fiscal management with a revolving door of staff and a non-stop routine of silliness.

While I praise Rev Brown for her dedication to her parishioners and fellow Plainfield citizens, I have to point out that she is far from qualified to lead a city the size of Plainfield. Plainfield is large and complex with an $80,000,000+/- budget, huge complexity around pensions, health benefits and management of short and long-term debt. Add in that developers don't invest in towns where they don't have confidence in the cities management and you have a recipe for 4 years of nothing happening while other area cities continue to progress. Been there done that.

Think of it this way. Poor city management affects development and home values - reduced home values affect taxes (i.e. they go up since costs stay relatively the same for the most part). The area marketing is finally starting to stabilize after the mess of Robinson-Briggs and the recession - why would we want to toy with that now?

Add to this the fact that this fake flyer shows she can't even manage a campaign staff.

  20. OK so other than having the ability to smear your opponent with lies and nonsense, I have two questions for Rev Brown:

    1) Other than a string of words on a mailer - what specific ideas do you have for the city? And by the way - a response like "I want to build a stronger city through collaboration and community engagement" is a slogan and not a plan.

    2) Now that it has been proven several times over that your campaign did smear the Mayor, where is your apology to him and your retraction for the terrible damage you did? You are your campaign and your campaign is you - or to paraphrase President Truman - The Buck Stop With You.

So far you have demonstrated your inability to manage (i.e. no control) and your ability to lead (not owning your mistakes).
