Update on WBLS Bills

WBLS received two $2,500 checks from the city through the Recreation Division for activities related to the July 4th celebration. The one for "WBLS Street Team Appearance" was drawn from General Improvement Ordinance 1237 and the one for "WBLS Van Appearance for 4th" came from the Outside Consulting Services line.

The $20,000 check for the mayor's Aug. 1 Town Meeting was drawn against the Hardware and Software Maintenance account.

If we had a CFO, would that kind of stuff fly?

  1. With a CFO the mayor would not be allowed to line her pockets with our money nor would she be able to use our money for her own political benefit. Let's get rid of this worthless mayor.

  2. Unfortunately, and I believe I stated this in the past, the CFO only certifies that funding is there in the account in which an item or services is being charged to. The CFO does nothing more than that. The CFO does not certify that it is a legitimate expeses of the line item it is charged to so, in essence, you can charge apples to a peach account. The CFO does not care if it is an apple or a peach being purchased, just that the funding is there.

But charging an operating expense to a GIO is something else. Aren't bonds issued for these funds and aren't they earmarked for specific projects? And I guess Dave Wynn signing off on the paper work is a no brainer.

And let's look at charging this expense to Hardware and Software Maintenance. Was this signed off by the City's new IT person also?

If I was any one of the individuals that had been laid off becuase of budget constraints, I certainly would have my attorney use this as an arguement showing that if the city is in such financial constraints, why are expeditures like this being made?

  3. Just waiting for Sharon's excuse to need more time to explain it...the city council being divided and not being "sure" it's a good thing yet to force her to explain it, and deciding to pass a resolutin in 1yr calling for an explanation as to why she hasn't explained it. Then, when she gets around 2 months from that date explaining why she hasn't explained it the city council will pass a resolution calling for her to give the original explanation within 6months.
    - Mapp, Storch and Williams will be trying the whole time to strong arm the Assistant Bumbler
    - Carter, Rivers and Reid will either be absent, abstain or vote in favor of continually giving her more time
    - Burney would be anyone's guess depending on whether he is trying to get back into Jerry's good graces..

And I agree with the comment regarding the laid off city workers...HELLO RESIDENTS OF PLAINFIELD..THIS IS WHAT JERRY GREEN AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IN UNION COUNTY THINK OF YOU..They think you are bumbling mindless fools...they're just waiting for you to prove them right again in the next election..>VOTE EM ALL BACK IN!!

  4. Again, it is worth noting: We live in a city where the mayor actually spends residents' tax dollars by giving it to a wealthy commercial radio station for BAD publicity while laying off city workers and cutting our library budget. Is that a rational and reasonable use of our money in this economy? How can she possibly justify giving this money to a radio station? There are Plainfield seniors who live for a whole YEAR on less than what she gave to WBLS for a couple of hours of vanity air time.

The sad thing is, this is small potatoes compared to the much bigger contracts--God KNOWS what sleight-of-hand is occurring with the big bucks when there's no one minding the store, so to speak. Harvest Radio, which is right in town, could have broadcast the mayor's crime spree...uh, "forum"...but it wouldn't have had the glitz and glamor the mayor desires. So we, as a municipality, PAID for BAD publicity.

For Sharon Robinson-Briggs, it looks like the road to Hell is paved with incompetence and self-serving promotion. And we STILL don't have a Chief Financial Officer. And we STILL don't have an Administration and Finance Director.

  5. Wasn't there a Council Meeting where the City Administrator was asking for additional funds to be placed in various areas? I believe one was asking for $20,000 to go to IT. I thought it was to fund a part time employee since they had the Director working as Chief, cook and bottle washer. Now I wonder how it was really presented to the Council. Was it a generic request or were there specifics associated with the request?

  6. Was Rev. Sharpton also paid separately for attending?

  7. thank you concerned citizen regarding the laid off workers. We are filing suits. Between the idiot Mayor, Helwig, and her side kid Dave Wynn it is like shooting ducks in a barrel.

  9. C'mon now Professa . . . wasn't you at the parade on the 4th? Didn't the Mayor in the back of that convertible saying, "God Bless You All", while handing out plastic flags made in china . . . didn't that inspire confidence in her leadership, just a little!
