Labor Day Note

Our neighbor, South Plainfield, is holding its annual Labor Day Parade Monday with an array of bands, costumed characters, sports teams, local organizations, union members and politicians. It steps off at 10 a.m. from South Plainfield Middle School.

The lineup includes Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp, who joined union members in Plainfield for a show of solidarity on Saturday.

Whatever else you are doing on the weekend, sing or listen to "Solidarity Forever" and give a thought to unions that have made workers strong over the years.

And cheers to Plainfield's own "union maid," Dottie Gutenkauf, for sticking to the union over many decades.
