The tax lien list is online.
(click on the link)
I saw it in my digital newspaper and also bought a print copy to mark up, but you can see it on the city web site at the link above. As usual for several years now, the majority of delinquencies is for sewer fees, not municipal taxes, but there are a few major tax debtors in the ranks. Give a look and see what you think.
Block 501
ReplyDeleteLot 18
Grave Yard on Plainfield Ave.
After all these years they still do not have a clue on how to correctly send bills. Good Luck Mr & Mrs Average Homeowner.
Church property is not exempt unless the church applies for and receives an exemption.
DeleteIt is a utility so no one is exempt, but if there is no sanitary sewer, or they have a septic there should be no charges for sewer. Now is there a "Garbage Pickup" fee ? Don't know, but the Church that owes the property would probably be happy to have the City take it over and keep it up.
DeleteHow much less would we all need to pay if these folks payed their fair share? I won't mention names but sombody in the collection department needs to get working a little-of course we will sell a collection contract to someone who will give us 10cents on the $$$$ - then of course theres all all those tax revenues not being collected- do you know you can make more money by putting what you owe for your taxes and sewar charges in a cd for 10 years than you would owe in fines- if you ever had to pay at all ---Some people feel fine about stealing others not so much -karma will catch up with them them several lives hence, before this city collects
ReplyDeleteGood question. Is it S for sanitray sewer or for PMUA billings? Technically if you had a septic with private garbage you could still get a bill to pay the City costs that are build into the rates. Death and taxes now includes PMUA costs I figure
ReplyDeleteSome interesting stuff. Does Joy Spriggs still work for the city? Seems as though people who get paid by the taxpayers should have their paycheck garnished to pay municipal taxes.
ReplyDeleteAlso, very amusing that Charles Eke, former PMUA Commissioner, owes money to PMUA.
And how does someone rack up over $12,000.00 in tax and sewer fees and nothing happens to them?
Thanks for posting this Bernice. Many other interesting folks on this list.
Please note, individuals may have personal situations that cause them to get behind. We do not know all the reasons why individuals are on the list, though it would seem that public figures, developers and landlords would be more careful to pay their bills.
DeleteI wonder how PMUA's cash flow suffers with so much owed to them.
That is true, Bernice. But there are several people who are on the list who have jobs, and their delayed payments seem to be a recurring issue.
DeleteI think there are some people whose priorities may not include living up to their obligations. And to your point - some - not all.
Whew!!! I am finally OFF THE LIST! Thanks Bernice for noting that WE FOLK do have personal situations that cause US to be behind. But . . . there was a light at the end of this tunnel and I am glad I made it to the end of THIS tunnel and hopefully I will never see another one.
ReplyDeleteIt is scary when you know many of the many Plainfielder's on the list. This appears to be a BIG problem in Plainfield and needs serious attention.
ReplyDeleteWow! The PMUA Chairman Tyndall is on the Tax Sale list. I guess he doesn't want to pay the bill either. How embarrassing is that?
ReplyDeleteI guess he feels the pinch like all Plainfielders do, who have to pay that bill. He should therefore understand the complaints about the PMUA rates.
DeleteDid the bills go out late? I see whole blocks on the list and can not believe the that many homeowners on one block did not pay the PMUA. Also some of the homes on the list are in foreclosure. Did the PMUA charge for garbage collection on vacant homes?
