My son was only 2 years old and was listening to a story on the Wollensak tape recorder when the power went out all over the Northeast. He was afraid he had broken the tape recorder.
Contrast that machine to the iPod Nano or a smartphone!
A beautiful machine. Wollensak was the gold standard for real to real recorders well in to the 70s after which they faded into obscurity due to the popularity of cassettes.
The newest smart watches are making Dick Tracy's wrist watch come true. In the 90s I purchased a Kaypro portable(?) computer that weight over 30 lbs. Today's smartphones have zillion times the memory and can do functions that perhaps only the big IBM computers could.
I have been reporting on Plainfield for more than 30 years, first at the Plainfield Today weekly, then at the Courier News and after retirement on the Plainfield Plaintalker blog and its successor, Plaintalker II.
