April Meetings Offer Insight into Plainfield

If you have considered getting more informed on how Plainfield works, April offers a very full roster of meetings, ranging from the typical land use and municipal government meetings to candidates' forums.

My planner is overloaded with meetings and significant dates this month.

Government: City Council agenda-fixing 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 4; regular meeting 8 p.m. Monday, April 11. Both at Municipal Court, 325 Watchung Ave.

Land Use: Zoning Board of Adjustment, 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, City Hall Library, 515 Watchung Ave. Planning Board, April 7 and 21, both 7:30 p.m. in City Hall Library. Historic Preservation Commission, 7:30 p.m. April 26, City Hall Library.

Candidates' Forums For April 19 school board election: Plainfield Education Association, 6:30 p.m.Wednesday, April 6, Hubbard School, 661 West Eighth St. Also Plainfield League of Women Voters, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, Anne Louise Davis Room, Plainfield Public Library, 800 Park Ave.

PMUA: 6 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 127 Roosevelt Ave.

Board of Education: Work & Study, 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, Plainfield High School Conference Room, 950 Park Ave. Regular Meeting, 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, Plainfield High School auditorium.

City Budget Meetings: Dates of April 12, 18, 20, 26 and 27 to be confirmed at April 11 council meeting. All sessions  start at 7 p.m. in the Plainfield Senior Center, 400 E. Front St.

Important Dates: April 4, Filing date for June Primary. April 19, school board election, polls open 2 to 9 p.m.

I know people are very busy with work, family, volunteering, yard and garden work and so on this month, but even if you give up home entertainment and pick just one public meeting to attend, you will better understand Plainfield. Give it a try.
